Mumbai, March 19 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), on Thursday surged 221.37 points or 0.77 percent as banking stocks gained.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also surged 53.95 points or 0.62 percent and was trading at 8739.85 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 28,805.22 points, was trading at 28,843.49 points (at 9.17 a.m.) in the early session, up 221.37 points or 0.77 percent from the previous day’s close at 28,622.12 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 28,868.28 points and a low of 28,803.87 points in the trade so far.
Almost all the sectors were trading in green. The rally was led by banking, capital goods, auto and healthcare sectors.
